Doodling in Devon
The family and I had a great break in Devon. We stayed for a few days in a beautiful place called Welcombe. Visit the village site at http://www.welcombe.org.uk/ . Following last week’s post where I talked about the connection between the landscape and portraiture, I thought I’d include a picture of the view over Welcombe Mouth cove.
![]() ![]() Have a closer look at the distant rocks and tell me you can’t see a head and shoulders rising out of the sea! This Jurassic coastline is full of the most astonishing land formations. http://www.jurassiccoast.com/
![]() The surface textures and colours of this landscape made a great impression on me. I will definitely be dedicating a future post to this topic. Awesome place!! A word my kids seem to mention in every sentence. This is a popular surfing and body-boarding area in the warmer months. Unbelievably, the car in the above photo belonged to a surfer who I spotted alone in the waves!! As an amature body boarder myself, I bow to his courage and determination. Unfortunately the weather didn't allow me to make any outdoor sketches, however, we plan to return in June. I was forced to return to the local pub (The Old Smithy) every day to complete the following sketches! Great pub by the way. Highly recommend it. It has been taken over by a young arty couple and is full of interesting object d'art.

Great work Adam, would love you to sketch my family sometime.
Are many artists using Brushes on the ipad?
Saw some interesting work by Hockney recently using it on an iPhone.
All the best,
Ian
